A note from Bill: It was my desire to write material for the group that blended our love of various styles/genres of jazz including my fondness for the great songs of Tin Pan Alley and contermporary art song. Each composition has either a personal story or observations of the world in which we all live.
About the tracks:
1. Gone From This World - a jazz waltz with an eye on today's societal issues. 2. Pages - inspired by the modal music form of "So What", "Impressions", the lyrics are about the passage of time analagous to the pages of a book. 3. Hilos (Threads) - is my way of externalizing the anguish of seeing my dad suffer and pass away from the dibilitating effects of Alzhiemer's disease. 4. Tika Samba - one rememberance I have of my sister, Meg who died of an embolism at 46, was a beautiful doll she had as a child. She called her Tika. 5. Emperor's New Clothes - a look at corporate greed and scammers. Enron, Madoff, etc. 6. Look My Way - a very personal romantic tale given just the right "Latin Lover" flair by bassist Edgar Pagan. 7. Lighten Up Your Heart - we all probably have dear friends that from time to time, need to be lifted up, know that things will get better. 8. Said The Spider To The Fly - a 32-bar Tin Pan Alley style jazz tune with plenty of irony in the lyrics beautifully handled vocally by Lisa. 9. Chapter Prelude - originally this was an introduction to an art song I wrote for Lisa but worked perfectly as a prelude to the work that follows... 10. Another Chapter - this melody came to me in a dream. I had to bring it to life and it is a fitting finale to the Threads concept. 11. Threads - the english version of Hilos. 12. Too Flip - originally a vocal blues tune about people with attitude. The instrumental version is in honor of Kenny Budd. Kenny gives this attitude!
